Anniversary Sale

Today is my day of anniversaries.

It is my BUSINESS anniversary. I can hardly believe that I am saying that, as of today, I have been in business for 6 years. Wow...that was fast ;)

More importantly, on this day 12 years ago, the most amazing man agreed to put up with me for the rest of our lives. We were married on a rainy Saturday in Kananaskis. In some ways, it seems like an eternity ago...like we have ALWAYS been married. And, in other ways, it is hard to believe that it has been 12 years already.

So, to celebrate my two anniversaries--I thought I'd have a sale. For the next week, my COUPLES sessions will be $300 off. That's right. Usually, a couples session and the files are $1200(+gst), but for one week I am making an exception. Deposit must be paid by midnight on Sunday, September 8th, 2013. The date of the session has to be before June 1st, 2014. Sooooo...anyone want to celebrate their own love? I'd love to help you do just that ;)

Forever Like That

The title is also the title of a fabulous song by Ben Rector....I have been thinking of the lyrics a lot lately. You see my 12 year anniversary is on Sunday. I'll be celebrating by photographing a wedding. Which seems to me a lovely way to spend the day. This is another couple for whom I get to witness their wedding this winter. We spent a lovely evening together recently...these are the images we came up with.
I love the way her nose crinkles when she smiles so I had to include one. I just had to. I thought to myself--that's the way her friends see her. The picture beside it...yeah...that's the way he sees her. Or maybe he sees her both ways ;) Either way, his love for her is so sweet. So sweet that it made me think of this Ben Rector song.
I wanna love you, forever I do. I wanna spend all of my days with you. I'll carry your burdens and be the wind at your back. I wanna spend my forever - forever like that.
~Ben Rector

I so love photographing couples. I'd like to do it more, so...got an anniversary coming up? Want pictures of your parents? I'm going to have an awesome awesome special next week in celebration of my own anniversary. Watch for it ;)

Love. No Matter How You Say It.

They met at a basketball tournament in Melbourne, Australia. He lives there. She's from Edmonton. Both of them knew right away that there was something special between them. When I asked them to give me three words that describe their relationship, she started out with longevity because they survived being separated for so long. He said(get ready to swoon ladies) lovey. Which he then further described as 'full of love'...which only makes girls gush even more. And, then they ended with sweet. Longevity. Lovey. and Sweet. This was an interesting session for me because both of them are deaf. Anyone who knows me knows how completely chatty I am. Plus, I like to talk to my subjects while I photograph them. Well, this wasn't possible this time around...but, we worked it out. Because they are deaf, they wanted to include the sign for 'I love you' somehow. The middle picture is what we came up with. And, you know what I learned? I learned that sign language is different in Australia...and that difference is why they met. She decided to try and learn some Australian sign language so she signed up for that basketball tournament. Thank goodness for language barriers ;) Such an honour to do an engagement session for a couple from so far away. I promise that there are images where you can see their faces and I'll share those one day ;) I just have been teaching a class lately with a group of ladies who are a bit obsessed with silhouettes and flare. Funny how your students can inspire you. That is probably the best part about teaching. I hope they approve ;)
