Kelsie in the Sky: A WestJet Flight Attendant Graduation Branding Session in Calgary

Some milestones deserve more than a quick selfie in the parking lot. When Kelsie, the creator behind Kelsie in the Sky, graduated from WestJet flight attendant school, she wanted to remember exactly how it felt. She also wanted a gallery of images she could use across her social media for months to come.

So we met on the WestJet campus, she wore her uniform for one of the first times as a graduate, and we told her story.

Every branding session starts with a story

When I photograph a branding or commercial session, I'm not just making nice headshots. I'm asking: what is this person's story right now, and how do we show it?

For Kelsie, the story was easy to feel and a joy to photograph. She had worked hard to get here. She was standing outside the company she'd dreamed of flying with, and she was officially part of the crew.

I wanted her gallery to do two things:

  • Give her lots of options for social media. Close-up portraits, wide environmental frames, vertical images for Reels and Stories, and horizontal images with room for text.

  • Show what this moment felt like. Not just what she looked like in her uniform, but the pride, the excitement and the pure joy of reaching this milestone.

Using the location to tell the story

The WestJet campus gave us so much to work with. The big glass walls reflect the WestJet sign and the sky, while the model planes inside sit right behind Kelsie in the frame. In one image, she's laughing and looking off to the side, framed by the reflections of the building and the aircraft she'll soon be working on.

Those layers matter. Anyone scrolling past knows instantly where she is and what she does, without reading a single word of the caption.

Why a story-driven branding session works so well on social media

When your images tell a story, your audience feels like they're part of it. That's what builds connection, and connection is what keeps people following, engaging and booking with you.

A story-driven branding session gives you:

  • Variety: portraits, details, wide shots and candid moments, so your feed never looks repetitive.

  • Authenticity: real emotion instead of stiff poses, which is what people actually stop scrolling for.

  • Content for months: one session can carry your posts, Stories, website and profile photos for a long time.

  • Images that mark a moment: a new job, a launch, a graduation, a rebrand. Years from now, you'll be glad you documented it.

Is it your turn?

Whether you're an influencer, a small business owner, a new graduate or someone stepping into a brand-new chapter, I'd love to help tell your story. We'll talk about where you are right now, what you want your images to say and the location that brings it all to life.

I photograph branding sessions in Calgary, Okotoks and across southern Alberta, on location or in my studio.

Congratulations again, Kelsie. The sky's the limit.
