My Tribe

Photography is, at times, a solitary career. Most people probably don't realize that, but I spend a great deal of time by myself. Sitting in front of my computer--editing, answering emails, dealing with my never ending file management needs, and very occassionally planning my next photographic endeavour.

I consider myself lucky to have begun my career quite a few years ago now...back when the size of the industry was a bit more manageable and the possibilities of meeting amazing photographers online and in person seemed easier. Thanks to that, I have managed to grow a rather large group of artist friends whom I lovingly refer to as 'my tribe'. Some within my tribe I talk to quite regularly. Others are there when I need them...and, I am there for them. It has been the single greatest thing I have done for myself as an artist, but also as a business person.

Luckily for me, two of my tribemates were recently in the Calgary area. I was able to spend a day with them out in Banff and Kananaskis. It was a very casual and laid back day filled with wonderful conversations and just a wee bit of picture taking. Here are a handful of my favourites.

In Home Session

You know when it is so beautiful outside it is hard to think about having an in home session, but there is something special about the ordinary moments that can only happen in your home. These are the moments that you will remember when you think back on the time your children were small. The Little Tikes Slide...remember when your kids were small enough to play with that? Feels like forever ago for me.

At home sessions are a nice alternative to the typical fall leaves. And, if you have a beautiful backyard or live close to a park, we can go outside for part of the session as well. Best of both worlds.

Fall Has Arrived in Calgary

Fall is here in Calgary. I was worried with the early snow that our fall would be less than spectacular, but there truly was no need to worry.

This little spot is a favourite of mine to take my own kids too. It's in kind of a weird place so I have always hesitated to bring other people there, but I'm so glad I did. It was stunning that fall evening. And this was the perfect spot for family photographs.

Magical Light

When you live in Alberta, sometimes Mother Nature shows up to your sessions. If you are really lucky, she's in a good mood ;)

We started this session walking through a magical forest that lead to an amazing canyon and ended canoeing into the sunset. All that in the space of a couple of hours is what you get in Alberta's amazing backyard. How lucky are we to live here?

I was a little bit grumpy that day...it's true, but the second we turned off the highway and headed towards Kananaskis...with the spectacular fall display and the gorgeous setting sun...well, I felt at peace. It is truly a magical place. Such a pleasure to hang out with this family for the 3rd time :)

I have room for an evening session this week...and space for one my session on the weekend, if you want to take advantage of the amazing fall we are having.
