Calgary Graduation Portraits
In 2023, I had the opportunity to photograph a lot of young men who were graduating from high school. I think parents of young female graduates always think about having portraits done because there is so much effort that goes into their dress, their shoes, their hair, etc…but, I love that the class of 2023 did not leave out the boys!! There is something so special about seeing these young people at this moment of transition in their life from their childhood to adulthood. Many of them are finishing up their youth sports or activities and making big decisions about what they want for their lives. I love hearing all about their future plans. Getting to spend time with so many grads every spring truly brings me hope for our future.
If you have a 2024 graduate and are thinking about having portraits done, watch here and on my social media for my Black Friday specials to grad $200 off a regular priced session. There will be a limited number of these sessions available and they will be released at 9:00am on Friday, November 24th. When, they’re gone—they’re gone ;) Over the next week and a half leading up that, I’ll be sharing more examples of what you can expect from a graduation session plus some tips to getting the most out of your own session….so, watch here.
Alberta Summer Games Photography Chair | Triathlon
I really enjoyed photographing the Triathlon events at the Alberta Summer Games. First of all, the community there supporting the events was top notch. I loved the energy and encouragement that everyone brought to the games. Second of all, I really enjoyed the variety of activity because it allowed me to document so many different things. The only downside was the early morning start—hahahahahaha. I am not so much an early morning person. But, these kids, it didn’t phase them one bit. Here are some of the images I created that morning.
Alberta Summer Games Photography | Baseball
During the Games, I probably got to more baseball games than any other sport and I really enjoyed them. The pace of baseball allows for a photographer to really explore not only the performance athlete, but how a team works together to support one another. Not to mention the spectators. Here are some of my favourites from the baseball games that I attended.
Alberta Summer Games Photographer | Opening Ceremonies
Photographing the opening ceremonies for the Alberta Summer Games was such an incredible experience. The energy from the athletes and coaches was off the charts. The volunteers in my hometown of Okotoks went above and beyond to create a wonderful experience for everyone in attendance. Perfect Storm Cheerleading entertained everyone while they arrived. Indigenous drummers, singers and dancers representing the Blackfoot Confederacy wowed us with their cultural performances. The local circus artists from Spectacle Blue Circus Arts took to the field dressed representing all of the different activities. There were even two cranes that lifted the performers representing cycling and canoeing high above the crowd! It was really quite the event.
My job in documenting the event was to try to capture the energy of the athletes arriving and on the field during the event. Not only did I focus on the athletes and coaches, but on the performers and the volunteers. I also had 5 other photographers there that night stationed throughout the event to make sure that we were able to document the audience and dignitaries. Many of the volunteers were seasoned photographers, but there were a couple of young people just starting out on their photography journey and I really enjoyed helping them as they captured some portfolio worthy images. Here are some of my favourite images that I created that night.
