family adventures
Family Adventure Sessions are what I am known for—this is the session that I created based on the way that I shoot. I call it an adventure session because it is an activity based portrait session. Having an activity allows everyone to relax and enjoy each other’s company instead of worrying about trying to behave a certain way. This creates those ‘candid moments’ that everyone craves when it comes to artwork for their walls.
What type of activity you might be asking? Well, I think the best way to choose an activity is to start by asking yourself what it is that you want to remember most about this moment in your family’s history. How do you spend a typical Sunday morning? For everyone, that will be different—some people will hang around in their pajamas making banana pancakes and cuddling on the couch. Other people will be camping in the mountains or playing street hockey. This is the session to document your family as they are…not as some fantasy version of yourselves dressed in clothes you never wear with professional hair and make up. This is the REAL DEAL…because your everyday life is BEAUTIFUL. I promise it is.
This isn’t your grandmother’s portrait session…this is a session designed to capture all of the little things that you want to remember about your life right now. Instead of trying to fake beauty by forcing everyone into a cookie cutter look that doesn’t suit them, we focus on blowing bubbles, jumping on the trampoline, making mud pies and finding ladybugs. All of the things that childhood should be about…you know…remember when you used to drink from the hose? Why not do a bit of that with your own kids and show them how to have fun?!
The outcome from this type of session is a series of images that work together best in an album or a wall gallery. I know from my own family that having these sorts of images on the walls or these books to look through when everyone is home allows children to feel important and loved. Invite me into your home, or to your favourite local park, or to the hockey rink and let me document your life in a BIG WAY…the way your family deserves.
